Guam eligible for Olympic chess

Guam Echecs (Island Chess) recently was approved as an affiliate member to the Federation Internationale des Echecs (FIDE).

Guam Echecs now can send a chess team from Guam to play in the Olympiads anywhere in the world. Individual players also can participate in zonal or regional championships in the Oceania or Asia-Pacific region.

Guam Echecs will hold another major chess tournament by skill levels 1-5 at the Agana Shopping Center on Nov. 26 and 27 and Dec. 4 and 11 to determine the Guam Chess Champion and top ten players from Guam.

Greetings from Canada! I arrived in Toronto for the special 40th anniversary bash of Lifestyles Magazine and to help with the 2016 Toronto World Chess Olympiad bid.

With over 140 nations taking part, this is an outstanding opportunity to advertise both Toronto and Canada to the world. The multicultural make-up of Toronto makes this city the perfect host.

As an intermediate step, we also aim to host the Commonwealth Chess Championship and the Pan-American Chess Championship. Various World Chess Championship are also available for bidding, such as the World Youth Chess Championships and the World Chess Championship itself.

World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad – Round 8

The Turkish Chess Federation (TCF) organises the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad in Kocaeli, Turkey from 23rd October to 1st November. The Olympiad is conducted under the auspices of Federation Internationale Des Echecs (FIDE).

Entitled to participate are players who shall not have reached the age of 16, by 1st January 2011, (Date of Birth 1995 and after). TCF provides free board and lodging for a team of 4 players and the official for ten days.

Armenia took a lead in the second round but in the seventh round they made a draw with Iran and gave up the top position to Russia.

After a little break Armenian players crushed the team from England with amazing 4-0 score while Russian team defeated Kazakhstan with 3-1 score.

Thus Armenia overtakes the lead in the tournament half a point ahead of Russia. Azerbaijan team managed to win against Switzerland and shares the third place together with Iran and 2 points behind Russia. Only two rounds remain and every half a point can be decisive.

The tournament is being played as a 10 Round Swiss. Each match between teams will be conducted over 4 boards. The time control is 90 minutes with 30 seconds increments per move.

There are 122 players from Turkey, Scotland, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland, Slovakia, India, Russia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran, Kenya, Armenia, Czech Republic, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Syria, Moldova, England and Georgia.
